Hey guys.
Sorry this is so delayed, I just decided to start blogging today because Ive had so many interesting experiences already and its only been a week. Quick update:
My mom and I flew in on September 17th and spent a fabulous week with Adam and his family in Luxor. We mostly did touristy things, hung out by the Nile and ate great food. After a week I had to say goodbye, which, may quite possibly be one of the most difficult things I've done since I've been here.
Now on to the fun parts, school. I started school about week ago and I have mixed feelings. The classes themselves are interesting, however I'm not certain I like the way the school is run. Our apartment is quite large (I say our as I have one roommate, Jen from Iowa), however it is the state of the apartment that is concerting. It reminds me of hole in the wall, perhaps something you would find in the 30's during the great depression. When you walk across the floor, it feels as if dirt clings to you, and oh wait, it gets better. The bathroom is literally looks like a bottle of pepto exploded (not that I'm complaining, I love pink) however, day by day, I'm starting to like it less and less. Our shower has no hot water and and the water pressure reminds me of a dripping faucet.
Now for the city:
I live in a small suburb of Alexandria called Agami. Its pleasant for the most part, the people are friendly and generally pleasant. We've made friends with several people, including the man who owns the fruit stand, who, although we've known him for a week now, still rips us off. Also the men who run the juice stand are extremely sweet. People on the street know us and call out our names as we walk by.
For the most part I like it here, I'm certain that I could teach here, for how long, im not sure. I miss my friends in Luxor so much, its strange being with people daily for so long and then suddenly being on your own, I'm not sure yet if this is a good thing or a bad thing, however, at the moment it feels bad. Luckily I receive daily Luxor updates from about 15 different people, needless to say it always makes me smile :).
That's all for now...more updates to come.
